In America, we have a lot of personal freedom; arguably. That freedom allows a society that is more dangerous and requires a more militarised police force to ensure those freedoms aren’t threatened. For example, someone who take an assault rifle to school threatens the freedom of other students. Freedom thus creates more personal danger, and this creates more mistrust of society and people within that society.
It’s then a question of how much more freedom I feel I have versus how much freedom I actually have. In any normal day or year, nothing changes for me, but I gain a type of freedom that is almost non-existent in the USA except maybe in some small towns.
