Le Diascorn calls herself Négociant en VIN, and envisions her role as a creative director, choosing juices, daring to mix them, and at the same time reinterpreting wine presentation creatively. Le Diascorn grew up among the vineyards and the city center, spending weekends with his grandparents, who had real estate in Sauternes. “When I was a kid, I used to ride among the Yquem vines on a motorcycle. Going out with friends was more than being interested in wine and winemaking,” he recalls. But at the age of 19, Le Diascorn entered the wine universe through an internship at Rauzan-Ségla, an estate owned by Chanel. One day at her internship, Le Diascorn rode a bicycle commonly used by guests to get around the property and made a wheelchair in the garden.
He made a bet with his colleague that he could manage to get from one end of the estate to the other, on a single wheel. The castle’s communications manager saw the challenge and decided to take a photo for Rauzan-Ségla’s Instagram account. “I didn’t see it coming, I had this stereotypical idea in my head that everything we did had to fit the image of a castle where nothing sticks out,” he said, but it eventually turned out. into a defining moment, one that helped solidify his intuition that he could propose something new without compromising the excellence and rigor required to make wine. According to Le Diascorn, “the world knows Bordeaux primarily through its epic battle”. The local system worked in such a way that the beaters — a wine classification with some parameters dating back to 1885 — sold all of their production to those in charge of distribution.
It is an efficient system that has allowed Bordeaux wines to be used almost anywhere in the world. His hope is to work with other vineyards, whose gems are not always appreciated because of the lack of means and energy to sell them. He’s not opposed to the establishment – he wants to see Bordeaux thrive no matter what – but he hopes to create a sort of counterculture. “…my generation sees things differently, as opposed to the formal approach of the local industry,” he said. Le Diascorn plans to partner with winemakers across the region and combine them with innovators who will create a separate label for each wine.
